Build the Earth (BTE) は、サンドボックスビデオゲームMinecraft内で地球の1:1 縮尺モデルを作成することに特化したプロジェクト。
歴史[編集]
Build The Earth は、2020年3月にYouTuber PippenFTS によって、ビデオ ゲームMinecraftで地球を再現するための共同作業として作成された[1]。PippenFTSはYouTubeで、将来の参加者に、地球の地形の基本モデルの上に人工構造物を再現するよう呼びかけた[2][3]。プロジェクトの調整を支援するために作成されたDiscordサーバーは[4]、2020年4月までに10万人以上のユーザーがいる[5]。
Minecraftの開発者であるMojang Studiosは、2020年のアースデイに自社のWebサイトでこのプロジェクトを紹介した[6]。2020年7月、YouTuberのMrBeastは、他の50人とプロジェクト内で故郷のノースカロライナ州ローリーを建設するビデオを投稿した[7]。
ソフトウェア[編集]
Build The Earth プロジェクトは、主に 2 つのMinecraftのMod(Cubic ChunksとTerra++) を使用している。 Cubic Chunksは、特定の高さを超える建造物が建設できないMinecraftの制限を取り除く。Terra++は、OpenStreetMap[8]などの地理データサービスからの情報を使用して、地形を自動的に生成し、構築プロセスを容易にする。プロジェクトはもともと、Terra++ の代わりに Terra 1-to-1 mod を使用していた[4][9]。PippenFTS は、「Cubic Chunks modがMinecraftの垂直方向の制限を打ち破り、Minecraftで地球をそのまま体験できるようになりました。ダウンスケーリングは一切ありません」と述べている[4]。
