Rhubarb and Ginger Gin or Rhubarb Ginger Gin is a cocktail made in Rugeley, England in 19th century, consisting of gin, a ginger and a rhubarb that makes the whole drink pinkish.

Rhubarb and Ginger gin is thought to have been created by William Palmer who has been known as a murderer in England. William Palmer made rhubarb and ginger gins for his murder originally. He used rhubarb and ginger gin in order to mask the taste of poison.

Variation[編集]

Typically rhubarb and ginger gin is topped up with iced water, rarely without water. It is common for rhubarb and ginger gin to be served as 'rhubarb ginger gin and tonic', typically consisting of 2 shots of gin, which is then topped up with tonic water. This is served in a highball glass over ice.

Story of William Palmer with rhubarb and ginger gin[編集]

William Palmer (6 August 1824 – 14 June 1856) was a doctor and multiple murderer in the 19th century in Rugeley, England. He murdered people with a poison, so he also known as the Rugeley Poisoner or the Prince of Poisoners. Rhubarb and ginger gin was invented by William Palmer. Gin was most commonly drunk at the period. His poison was consisted of strychnine, hydrogen cyanide and opium, and each poison has a special taste, colour and smell. He poisoned a rhubarb and ginger gin as a masking the feature of poison.
