ゲームプレイ[編集]
Minecraftと同様に、 Minecraft Earthは、構造物の構築、リソースの収集、クラフト、および探索を中心としている。このゲームは、他のバージョンのMinecraftと同じBedrock Editionを使用している。「ビルドモード」では、プレイヤーは他のプレイヤーと協力して「ビルドプレート」上に拡張現実構造を構築し、「プレイモード」でフルサイズで探索することができる。ビルドモードとプレイモードの両方で、ビルドプレートは拡張現実（AR）と内蔵のカメラを使用して現実世界にオーバーレイされている。プレイヤーは、ゲーム内のマップで「タップ可能」を収集し、パズル、特定のタスク、または敵対的なモブを倒す仮想の場所で「冒険」を完了することによって、リソースを収集できる。 Minecraft Earthは、樹木や湖などの物理的なオブジェクトを考慮しているため、ARシミュレーションへのインシデントや干渉が少なくなる[6]。

Microsoft Build 2015の期間中、MicrosoftのHoloLensチームは、拡張現実バージョンのMinecraftを発表した[11]。 2019年5月8日、泥だらけの豚を映したティーザー予告編が公開された[12]。Minecraft Earthは、2019年5月のMinecraft10周年の間に発表された[13]。マイクロソフトは、2019年半ばにリリースされたクローズドベータにプレイヤーがサインアップするためのWebサイトを作成し、マイクロソフトはゲームを段階的に公開していくことを意図していた[8]。マルチプレイヤーゲームプレイは、2019年6月のApple Worldwide Developers Conferenceで紹介された[14]。

クローズドベータ版は、2019年7月16日にシアトルとロンドンでiOS向けに最初にリリースされ[15] 、その後2日間にわたってストックホルム、東京、メキシコシティでリリースされた[16]。これらの都市のAndroidユーザーは、2019年8月30日にクローズドベータ版にアクセスできるようになった[17]。

ゲームの曲の1つである「アース」は、ニンテンドーの2018年のクロスオーバー格闘ゲーム「大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズ SPECIAL」に北谷光弘がアレンジしたダウンロード可能なコンテンツとして紹介された。この新しいアレンジ曲は、2020年10月13日に、スーパースマッシュブラザーズのファイターパスVol. 2内のチャレンジャーパック7の一部 としてゲームに追加された。チャレンジャーパック7には、 Minecraftフランチャイズのコンテンツが含まれている。プレイ可能なMinecraftファイターのプレイ可能なカラーバリエーションには、デフォルトのMinecraftスキンであるSteveとAlex、さまざまなMinecraftバイオームに基づくステージ、 Minecraft Dungeonsから供給された他の6つのトラックと、廃止されたMinecraftのLegacy Console Editionからのさまざまなミニゲームとして「Earth」アレンジ曲自体を含む7つの音楽トラックが含まれる。
